At this time, we're looking for full length feature articles or shorter tutorial articles discussing corset making / costuming / leather crafting / steampunk techniques and procedures. Suggested topics might include:
- Patternmaking and pattern grading for plus sizes
- Conducting corset fittings
- Boning differences & preferences. How to insert and work with.
- Setting busks or latch hook closures
- Creating a corset from a commercial pattern.
- Creating a corset from an Ageless Patterns historical pattern
- Complete beginning-to-end projects.
- Decorative techniques
- Working with coutil, leather, or other specialty fabrics
- Waist Training Corsets / Lifestyle
- Steampunk Corsets / Lifestyle
Requirements:
Content can be at a beginning or advanced level, but must be accessible and well explained. The content should be original and not previously published or copyrighted.
Articles should be thoroughly checked for spelling and grammar.
The text should be in a plain text document. Put notations where images should go. We will determine the exact layout, but will need to know the correct order for photos.
Photos should be 72dpi, 500 x 500 pixels, numbered according to your article.
We will contact you to let you know if we are accepting and publishing your article. At that time you can decide if you would like to be paid by check or if you would like a gift card for CorsetMaking.com or any of our sister sites.
Our editors reserve the right to make corrections as needed if an article is accepted for publication.
When you have a completed article you can email it with "Article Submission" in the subject line.
Include your name and a title. List the total number of images you are sending.
The writer retains copyright of both the article and any images supplied. You will be credited as the writer and photographer.
Compensation rates:
- $100 (or $150 worth of supplies from CorsetMaking.com) per Feature Article. Feature articles should be at least 2-3000 words long and 15-20 pictures apiece. Features can be a single article or broken into a series.
- $50 (or $75 worth of supplies from CorsetMaking.com) per Tutorial Article. Tutorial articles should be at least 500-1000 words long and/or 5-15 pictures. We reserve the right to edit them down as necessary. They must thoroughly explain all of the steps in the process.
